Nevertheless, it was evident that I had a sweet tooth from a very early age (so my mum tells me), as when I was no more than 3 years old, she would give my younger siblings their lunch and I would be hovering around hoping to have a taster of what I called kudding (as in pudding). Kudding at the time for me, was a warm chocolate dessert made by Heinz baby foods. I
was there ready and waiting just in case pudding came my way........
lots of good memories.
IN THE EARLY DAYS, A YOUNG ROCKY, GIVEN THE NICK NAME PERCY BY MY GRAND UNCLE, AS I REMINDED HIM OF HIS OWN UNCLE GROWING UP AS A CHILD IN THE BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE OF JAMAICA. THE IRONIC THING IS, I HAVE BEEN TOLD I ACTUALLY RESEMBLE MY GREAT GRAND UNCLE, IT'S FUNNY HOW WE JUMP FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.
I remember my mum used to make fried dumplings for breakfast on Sunday mornings, mounds of dough soft on the inside and just the right consistency of bite on the outside. Those days were the best. I still call my mum asking her "yu fry dumpling?" she tells me "come fry dem yourself!".
Even as a teen I would be in the kitchen trying to invent new kinds of sandwiches, snacks and puddings, more so when my mum made different dishes I would add my own little spice to whatever she prepared. I knew I was interested in food, but never realised as I got older it would become a big part of my life and go as far as creating a fried dumpling and ice cream dessert. At this point in time, I realise music, which I thought was my first love has definitely been rivalled with my craze for creating the perfect Pling.
Being in the kitchen has never really been a thought, it was just one of those things I fell into, wanting to kick up a rumpus, mixing and blending diverse tastes just to see what flavours would evolve from all that teasing of recipes. To be honest you could call me a real foodie, I just love good food, especially when prepared and cooked with love.
Through trial and error we have perfected our fried dumpling (Pling) into something that will blow you away. What comes next is something we like to call our evolution, the Pling, a staple in our Caribbean home, made of 5 simple ingredients and a taste we can't get enough of, so much so, it tempted us to imagine everything we could, and what better than an establishment full of creation, sharing our delicious combinations with the world. Percy Pling himself began his adventure long before.
He never even imagined being a part of the catering world, you see Percy was an idea, a representative of the creative side of our team, we wanted him to be the brand of our innovative concept so when we created the new phenomenon Plings we couldn't leave him behind, he became our ambassador which spun a web for our new dessert company.
We first hit the streets in November 2015, where we began to deliver delicious Plings, operating from our eye catching gazebo, we had kids and adults screaming for more. With 32 flavours to choose from, we give you the option of fruit, retro sweets, biscuits and chocolates to compliment your PlingDae, piled between layers of hot crispy fried dumpling, soft whipped vanilla ice cream and lets not forget whipped cream, sauces and sprinkles! We also cater for allergens and offer dairy and nut free options. Recently broadening our dumpling range to recreate an original British Classic the 'Crisp Butty', which has had an amazing reception.
PERCY PLINGS IS A PIONEERING DESSERT BRAND, PACKING MORE PUNCH THAN ANY WAFFLE, CREPE, DOUGHNUT OR PASTRY YOU HAVE EVER TASTED. OUR PRODUCT WILL GIVE EVERYONE SOMETHING NEW TO TASTE AS WELL AS A GREAT IMAGE TO SHOW DIVERSITY AND ORIGINALITY.
